Welcome to Hoppin’ Homemaking!

by Kim Calhoun on February 14, 2010

This is the start of the blog that I have been envisioning for years. After reading many blogs, I have found what I want to focus on.

The recipes that I post about will be from all over the place but mostly ones that I have tweaked on my own or found too good to pass up. I plan for future videos and step by step tutorials as the site grows.

I am a crafty girl. I have a jewelry business on the side you will find at my Artfire Store called CraftyFroggy. (You’ll recognize the frog. ) I will have how-to’s, tips and tricks, videos, and all sorts of crafts for kids on my blog eventually.  I am most interested in oil and acrylic painting, stamping and scrapbooking, polymer clay, and of course, jewerly making.

I love to take photographs. I started seriously about 3 years ago when I got my first DSLR, a Canon XTi.In my 9 to 5 I am a graphic designer. I got started into photography out of pure necessity. I needed stock photos for graphics projects that I either couldn’t find or didn’t want to pay an arm and a leg for. I went to Photoshop World for the first time about then and realized “Hey, I can do this!” I did all sorts of things for work including backgrounds, textures, and aerial photography. For fun and to learn my way around the camera, I started with landscapes and “art” photography. I have now stretched myself into portraiture. I am still a student of photography. On the blog, I will share my favorite shots and how I got them with a few helpful hints and tips I’ve learned.

Homeschool Helps

I am not a homeschooler in the normal sense. My son still attends school. I can’t wait for the day that we can afford for me to homeschool full time. But we do append our son’s education. I will from time to time put downloads on my site to help parents with homeschooling.

If you are involved with a scouting program, you know that it is a wonderful teaching instrument for your children. You also know that if you are a leader in the scouting organization that you have taken on a second job. :) I plan to share the things we do in our Cub Scout pack and dens to help out parent who are looking for activities and new ideas.
